This week is National Apprenticeship Week, a week where we want to highlight the amazing apprentices currently training at Jenx. They shared what makes an apprenticeship at Jenx worthwhile!
Lauren Luther recently completed her apprenticeship at Jenx with flying colours, earning a distinction for a piece of her coursework. She has now secured a permanent contract with Jenx as a Warehouse Operative, which sees her completing quality checks and packing our life-changing postural equipment for distribution in the UK and around the world.
She provided insight into why she pursued an apprenticeship: “instead of generic skills, I gained specific, work-based skills.” By providing the opportunity to gain key skills that are valued by employers, apprenticeships provide an exceptional way into work.

So, why come to Jenx for an apprenticeship? Liam Hithersay and Aaron Maris, both Apprentice Operatives at Jenx, spoke highly of our work culture. At Jenx, Liam says, “everyone’s friendly and takes the time to help you out” and Aaron praised the fact that he felt he could always “ask someone for help if needed”.
A workplace like Jenx allows people to learn a wide variety of skills in a way that suits their needs – as well as asking for help, Aaron told us he valued taking his time to thoroughly learn skills in multiple areas. At Jenx, we offer apprenticeships that allow students to explore each and every aspect of the manufacturing process from start to finish – from working in machinery all the way through to the despatch department.
When apprentices learn from experienced members of a team, they can inspire new perspectives and ideas in a workplace. Karen Grace, Head of HR at Jenx, highlights this: “we see apprenticeships positively benefit a great mix of people: experienced team members who thrive in sharing their skills and younger people who benefit and learn from them”.
“It really brings richness to the workplace. Apprentices bring their enthusiasm, willingness to learn and fresh new outlooks to a business – I find it really inspiring.”
We’re passionate about engaging people to learn new skills, and so we work with local organisations like Ascend, an organisation run by Together for Sheffield which provides training for young people and helps match them with local employers.
We also work with Opportunity Sheffield, a programme run by Sheffield City Council which breaks down barriers to work by providing work experience and apprenticeship opportunities for young people.
