Celebrating our young talent for National Apprenticeship Week 2021

At Jenx we’re delighted to be able to offer students the chance to gain a first-hand experience of a career in the manufacturing industry.

Through our renowned apprenticeship scheme, students spend around three months learning on the job by working as part of a team with our experienced staff members exploring each part of our manufacturing journey building life-changing equipment for special needs children.

This includes getting to grips with using various machines processing plywood, HDPE and polypropylene parts, and working in the assembly department producing high-quality metal work. They are also granted the responsibility of receiving and signing for goods, as well as performing quality checks, whilst working in the manufactured and ‘brought-in’ stores.

But don’t just take our word for it – many of our apprenticeships have shared some of the highlights of their time with Jenx below as part of National Apprenticeship Week.

 

Oscar Ventour

“During my time as a Jenx apprentice I have learnt lots of new things, the first of which being how the business functions and the logistics of how products move between departments on a day-to-day basis.

“In addition to this, I have developed many work skills including machinery operation, the use of computer aided design and further development techniques to take projects from the design stage through to engineering and manufacture.”

Warehouse Team Leader Louise Tarleton added: “Oscar is a delight to work with. He’s learnt an awful lot very quickly and he takes a lot of pride in his work. It’s clear he’s well suited to hands on, technical work and his openness to ‘just having a go’ means he is great at spotting potential issues and areas for improvement.

“Having him in the team has been quite grounding – he reminds us that everyone starts somewhere and all it takes to be great is a bit of support and communication.”

 

Jack Copley

Whilst Jack said the early-morning starts took some getting used to, he felt his apprenticeship at Jenx had helped him to mature and build great relationships with those he works with.

He also said the apprenticeship enabled him to pursue more skilled job opportunities, has helped build his confidence, got him used to the working world, and taught him a great deal about working on production lines.

Warehouse Team Leader Louise Tarleton added: “I think Jack is very conscientious, and is a great example of how much an apprentice can achieve if you give them time and guidance.

“When he was working with me recently, as soon as I sat him down and set clear expectations I suddenly had a very professional, hard-worker who helped us get through a tough few days.”

 

Clint Jackson & Zach Young

Clint Jackson and Zach Young are two of the latest apprentices to join the Jenx family, and have gained a huge amount of insight and expertise into our world and working methods.

Clint said: “My apprenticeship has offered a lot of skills about process and procedure, and I have learnt a lot about different job roles throughout the company and manufacturing/distribution as a whole.”

Zach added: “I have gained and improved many skills such as good time keeping, prioritising workload, communication skills, accuracy, and a keen eye for detail.”

Karen Grace, HR Manager, said: “We are incredibly proud of the learning and development of our apprentices in terms of their personal and social development and increased confidence, as well as the range of skills they have learnt giving much value back to the company.

“This is fostered by a highly supportive environment where learning and being true to our values are held in the highest regard.”
